The Social Service School is designed to provide students with a different, yet enriching and challenging classroom experience. This program differs from traditional high schools in primarily three ways:

· Students are taught to see the relationships between different subjects of study and to see how these subjects connect to real life situations (e.g. the changing societal roles of women in the United States and around the world are taught by combining social studies and literature curricula).
· Students earn an elective credit through career exploration outside the school campus by volunteering one morning a week at the agency/business of their choice.
· Social responsibility and character education are taught both inside and outside the school setting through cooperative learning and community service projects.

Who should apply?
· Students interested in careers where they work with and help other people.
· Students who enjoy doing school work both individually and in small groups.
· Students interested in learning about other cultures from around the world.
· Students who plan on going on to college or specialized career training.

The Social Service School is open to 11th and 12th grade students attending Crater High School. Required courses offered over a two year program in Social Service School include English III, English IV (or Accelerated English III, Accelerated English IV), Health 2, Economics, and Global Studies.
