GRADING-
Student's papers are graded on a scale of 1-5. General criteria
for each are listed below:
5
Generally a perfect performance that would be acceptable in the
work place.
3
Assignment illustrates knowledge of content but needs revisions.
1
Assignment would be unacceptable in the work place because of
writing errors (grammar, spelling) or lack of effort.
REDO
POLICY- The majority of assignments given in the
School of Business may be redone for full credit if turned in on
time.
- This policy is to reinforce continued improvement of projects
as would occur in a successful business environment.
- We also wish
to promote students learning from his or her own mistakes.
- Students can redo an assignment within the proper grading window as many times as they would like in order to receive a higher grade.
- To get an assignment regraded, a student must send an email to the teacher that initially graded that assignment and request that it be regraded.
Because
of the redo policy and availability of computers, all work submitted
is expected to have perfect spelling and grammar.
INCOMPLETE POLICY- The School of Business requires that all assignments be turned in to receive a grade.
- Missing assignments at the end of any grading period will result in an incomplete.
- Incomplete's that are not made up in the specified time for each grading period will turn to F's.
The incomplete policy is designed to reflect the same requirement that all tasks be completed in the work place, as well as enhance student success in our program.
LATE WORK- Assignments turned in late will receive a grade no higher than a 2.
- Because most assignments may be redone, it is important for students to turn in what they have completed on time so that it can be redone for full credit.
- Receiving a 2 on a late assignment would mean you turned in a perfect paper (albeit late) - don't count on getting any 2's for late work
CREDITS- The School of Business alternates its core curriculum each year between an economics/marketing focus and a global studies/international business focus.
- This transitional year into small schools, CSB will offer both economics/government and marketing and global studies and international business.
- In addition, the CSB offers communications credits (Com 3 or Com 4) for juniors and seniors.
- Computer applications, word processing, spreadsheet design, keyboarding, marketing, entrepreneurship, personal finance and business communications credits are electives offered as well.
- Junior and senior college prep credit is available to students wishing to do extra work (including an additional book report, speech and debate and research paper each trimester).
- Junior and senior college prep students are also expected to participate in all in class debates as well as attend a play during spring term.
OPEN LAB- To provide CSB students with a greater chance to succeed given our redo and incomplete policies, open labs are scheduled on a weekly basis to allow students to improve their work and make-up missing assignments. Generally, there are no new assignments given on these days. Students are expected to use this time wisely to submit the highest quality work possible.
INTERNSHIPS- One Thursday morning each week (effective late September), all School of Business students will participate in an internship at a local organization of his or her interest during the time they would normally spend in class. Internship days count as assignments in the CSB.
- Failure to attend an internship will result in the student receiving an I (incomplete) for that assignment and it must be made up.
- Students are expected to arrange for their own transportation and Crater classified staff and volunteers will call to verify students' attendance and participation.
- If a student is to miss an internship day, they are expected to call both their internship site and instructors beforehand .
- DO NOT SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS ON INTERNSHIP DAYS!! (Haircuts, nails, tanning, ortho, dentist, cosmetologist, photographer, bookie, etc are all examples of places/businesses you should not be at during your internship time.
- Absences are required to be made up to pass the class by completing the 3 hour block of time at your intern. Should this option not work out, an extremely painful written assignment will be assigned which will result in the student getting a maximum grade of 2.
- Students may be pulled from internship sites for lack of attendance and will forfeit one school credit if this becomes necessary.
- Signed contracts are required between students, parents, and intern supervisors regarding transportation and participation in a non-paid work experience.
BREAKS- Because CSB students are in the same classrooms for three hours or more, periodic breaks will be allowed as scheduled by the CSB teachers.
- Other Crater students are in class at these times so it is expected that students will stay in the Tech Center and can go outside to the courtyard only during passing periods.
- Leaving campus is not permitted during School of Business breaks. Don't even think about it - we know who you are!
- Going to get coffee at Dutch Bros or Human Bean (even if you get one for Tbone and Rogie) is leaving campus. Going to...it is all wrong!
2+2 CREDITS- Students may receive 30+ college credits in conjunction with the RCC 2+2 program and the CSB. Crater has a contract with Rogue Community College to provide the opportunity for students to earn college credits in a selected group of high school classes.
- Certain criteria is placed on awarding that credit, and if the student and instructor meet the requirements, the courses will receive award transcripts from RCC.
- If all requirements are met, (which vary with each class, but all include earning an A or B for the required coursework, completing the paperwork, and paying for the credits) the student is awarded college credit at Rogue Community College.
- Note that there is no distinction on a student’s college transcript between 2+2 classes taught at the high school and the same class taught at the college.
- Cost is currently free!
FOOD & DRINK- The teachers of the CSB believe that food and drink may enhance the productivity and learning process of students if consumed responsibly. Obviously, students should clean up their own wrappers, cans, and spills and avoid consumption of food and drink where it can be accidentally spilled on equipment. Food and drink may now be consumed in the halls according to Crater High School policy, but must be done in an appropriate manner.
FREE READING - Twice a week (generally Monday and Friday) our class will participate in Free Reading time. This is a graded time period (5 - 1) where students will be rewarded for reading. Comics, classifieds, and personals do not count as reading and students will be scored accordingly. It is recommended that students always have a book that they are ready to read.
INTERNET USE- Use of the Internet is mandatory in the School of Business. Many resources important to our curriculum are on the Internet so students must have parent permission for Internet use to stay enrolled in the course. Responsible Internet use is required as outlined in Crater's Internet contract. Violation of these rules will result in a student being suspended from, or removed completely from the CSB.
COMPUTER USE- Each CSB student will have use of a computer while in class. Because many students use the same computers, it is expected that students do not make any system changes. Changes desired for work related to academic learning may be discussed with the instructors but must not be made without permission. In addition, computers should not be used for anything that does not contribute to student's formal education at Crater High School. Students who bring in their own computers must set them up in designated areas only and obey the same responsible use policies as required on computers owned by School District 6.
- Do not put any software on our computers that we have not provided to you (this includes the newest version of Adobe that you burned from your connection in Holland, movies, anime, cartoons, games, and anything else).
- Don't lock your computer and then leave - it will be restarted.
GOLDEN RULE(S) - The following should always be heeded in the CSB.
- Don't be a goober, you are not as cool, funny, clever, great, stylish, beautiful, smart, sassy, you name it, as you think.
- Treat the lab with respect and ownership - this is your home and equipment. Truly, this is the coolest place at CHS. Cherish it.
- Be Nice.
- Think before you speak.
- Enjoy life - man, you're young - you have so many cool things going for you - take advantage.
- Don't Enjoy life irresponsibly - like Rogan always says, "you have your whole adult life to be an idiot."
- Meet everyone in the class - know their names - know something about them.
- Take chances.
- Learn new tricks.
- Join something (appropriate please).
- Try.
- Think.
- Don't give up.
- Believe in yourself.
- Do it well - make it better!
- Don't print your cell phone bill
- Clean up after yourself.
- Say something nice to someone different everyday.
TEACHER EMAILS - Whenever you send an email, please do the following:
- Put a subject in the subject line (i.e. - regrade resume)
- Capitalize - Grammar and Spell check
- send work to the correct person that graded the assignment
- mike.rogan@district6.org - todd.bennett@district6.org
