Freshman
Year Syllabus
PHILOSOPHY:
It is students' abilities
in an encouraging and caring manner. We treat all students fairly as well as
our goal as teachers at Crater High School to create a safe and comfortable
learning environment for all students. We believe in challenging individually.
Our belief is that students should be treated in the same manner we wish to
be treated, with respect. We run a very structured classroom and strive to make
rules and procedures very clear.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:
This is a two-year course that integrates requirements for English, or Accelerated
English, U.S. and World Studies, or Accelerated U.S. and World Studies. The
course will focus on helping students meet the standards in reading, writing,
and social science. The course is taught during a two-period block by one English
teacher and one Social Science teacher. The program will be driven by history,
and English requirements will be integrated into this perspective. The course
offers freshmen and sophomores the opportunity to be involved in a smaller community
where motivated students are actively involved in the learning process. During
the spring of the sophomore year, students will have the opportunity to visit
New York and Washington D.C., to bring alive some of the places we have been
studying.
